Scholarship Overview

The Eric C. Lucas Memorial Scholarship aims to award funds to juniors and seniors enrolled in Mississippi Colleges or Universities majoring in Music. Applicants must demonstrate leadership and community service.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Must be active in the Mississippi Southern First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ.
  • Must be a junior/senior enrolled in a Mississippi college/university majoring in Music.
  • Must complete and submit a scholarship application along with two (2) type-written letters of recommendation. One letter must be written by the applicant’s pastor; letters from family members will not be accepted.
  • Must provide a Personal Statement.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA required.
  • Official Transcript required.

$1000.00

Quality of Written Personal Statement

We are looking for applicants who demonstrate excellent writing skills and can share clear academic goals.

Applicants must submit a 500-word (minimum) essay detailing why they consider themselves a good candidate for this scholarship.

Scholarship Awarded

The scholarship will be awarded during the Annual MSFEJ Holy Convocation held during the month of July.

Deadline

Application must be submitted no later than 5 pm – Sunday, June 30, 2024. Applicants will be notified of the decision.

Eric C. Lucas

 

Eric C. Lucas, a charismatic and well-loved trendsetter, was born on May 17, 1989, in Newton MS. His fondness for his hometown and the cherished memories of his grandparents shaped his early life. He attended Newton Elementary School, Brandon Middle School, and graduated from Murrah High School in Jackson, MS. His academic journey continued at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) in Hattiesburg, MS, wherein 2014, he proudly received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations.

From an early age, Eric dedicated his life to Christ, finding solace and joy in singing in the church choir. As he matured, he began to have dreams and visions of how God would use him in his life’s journey. He was a member of Triumph Church in Newton, MS, and later joined Liberal Trinity Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Hollis Musgrove in Jackson, MS. Eric always acknowledged God’s role in his success, recognizing that he could do nothing without His help.

He always celebrated life and lived his life to the fullest. As an only child, he was driven to be successful. His mother (Lisa Lucas) was the driving force for him by always encouraging him to be his best. He exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit by always coming up with new business ideas. During his early college years, he extended his brotherhood. He became a Mason as a member of T.C. Almore Lodge #242, operating under the M.W. Stringer Grand Lodge of Mississippi F & AM Prince Hall Affiliated.

As a young man, Eric became a mogul for fashion and music. He loved music, and his dream was to become an entertainer. After graduating from USM, he moved to Atlanta, GA, to accomplish his dreams. His dreams came true in 2017 when he recorded “One Night.” The video of One Night was featured on BET Jams, and he was also featured on NURA DIO’s top 5 INDIE artist show. In June 2018, he recorded “Goin’ Live,” No. 17 in Atlanta’s Top 20 Hottest Rap Records. He was currently working on “We Made a Way Out.”

In 2018, he recorded Goin’ Live and One Night and was featured in Beamer Coupe, Rockstar Livin’, Told U, Flex up, Ready 4 It, , La la La, and What I Do. In 2017, he was featured in Feel Good and Motion (which was No. 7 on Street Watch Radio’s weekly hot top 10 chart). His songs were played and featured on the radio, iTunes, iHeart Radio, YouTube, Amazon Music, Deezer, Shazam, Qobuz, SoundCloud, Spotify, Tidal, Google Play, and Apple Music. He was also employed by AT&T headquarters in Atlanta, GA, and previously was a salesman at C Spire and Old Navy in Jackson, MS.
