Scholarship Overview
The Theo Davis “Business” Scholarship is awarded to college graduates majoring in Business; demonstrating outstanding academic and professional abilities.
2024 APPLICATION DEADLINE – JUNE 30, 2024
Scholarship Eligibility
- Must be an active member of the Mississippi Southern First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ.
- Must have received your college degree in Fall 2023 or Spring 2024 with a major in Business.
- Must complete and submit a scholarship application along with two (2) type-written letters of recommendation. One letter must be written by the applicant’s pastor; letters from family members will not be accepted.
- Must provide a Personal Statement.
- Minimum 3.25 GPA required.
- Official Transcript required.
- Must provide an offer letter of employment.

$5000.00
Quality of Written Personal Statement
We are looking for applicants who demonstrate excellent writing skills and can share clear academic goals.
Please submit at least a 500-word essay detailing why you consider yourself a good candidate for this scholarship.
Scholarship Awarded
The Scholarship will be awarded during the Annual MSFEJ Holy Convocation held during the month of July.
Deadline
Application must be submitted no later than 5 pm – Sunday, June 30, 2024. Applicants will be notified of the decision.
Bishop Theo Davis
In 1917, Bishop Davis was converted to Holiness at a revival conducted by the founder of the Church of God In Christ, Bishop Charles Harrison Mason in Collins, MS. He served the Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Superintendent D. R. Curry and Elder D. H. Jones. He later moved to Medenhall, MS, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and a deacon under the leadership of Bishop F. W. Reed. In 1930, he moved to Jackson, MS and served under the leadership of Supt. D. R. Curry as a Sunday School Superintendent and chairman of the church corporation.
In 1938, guided by the moving of the Spirit of God, Bishop Davis established Dalton Street COGIC at 1301 Dalton Street. Because of the exponential growth of his ministry, the church was later moved to 1700 Dalton Street, Jackson, Mississippi. Bishop Davis served churches in Brandon, Vicksburg, Laurel, Bolton, Gloster, and Jackson. He served as pastor of Gloster COGIC (in 1937 renamed Davis Chapel), and Dalton Street COCIC (in 1941 renamed Davis Temple). He later served as pastor of Laurel #1 COGIC. Bishop Theodore ” Theo” Davis was elected to serve as the second Bishop of Southern Mississippi in 1962, after the passing of Bishop F. W. Reed.
Before being appointed to the office of bishop, he served Southern Mississippi for 22 years as the State Secretary and eight years as Superintendent of District 7. He served as chairman of the Ministers Superannuate Board, a member of the Board of Education, and the National Finance Committee. He also served as the national Treasurer of the Church of God in Christ. Bishop Davis is credited with establishing the C. H. Mason Bible College in Southern Mississippi. He served as board chairman and chairman of finance for Saints Academy in Lexington, Mississippi. He was active in the community and served as a member of the West Jackson Improvement Association and was co-chairman of the Jackson Ministerial Alliance.
